Embarassing list of games I have played in the last month


Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter (Played a couple of chapters, will prolly go back)
Serious Sam 3 (Played main campaign up to final boss.)
Trine 2 (Ongoing campaign with my daughter)
Torchlight 2 (Played a few hours and got bored)
Shadow of the Colosssus (finished main campaign)
God of War (Played a few hours. No inclination to continue this inferior clone of Darksiders (joke))
Katamari Damacy(played about half an hour to see what all fuss was about)
The Last Remnant (Played a few hours, interested in trying some more)
The Walking Dead (Finished first chapter)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (Played through to end of main campaign)
Dishonored (Played through to the end of main campaign)
Stacking (Played with my daughter for a few days)
Shatter (Whiled away some time a few evenings)
Dogfighter (can't remember what I did with this)
EVE Online (only logged in to take advantage of skill changes in patch)
Star Wars The Old Republic Online (Played for a couple of hours and got bored)
Open TTD (Played this with my daughter for about a week)

Hm, I also find myself rushing through games and not finding any that stick. Comes with age?

Age perhaps and also the completely overwhelming choice of games to play. Ten years ago an exceptional game might have consumed my attention for several weeks. Today even great games have to fight a slew of equally good titles to get any attention.

I suspect this is a transition phase for my gaming. I just haven't figured out yet what it is transitioning to but it probably involves playing fewer different games. I am half tempted to give up on newer releases and simply focus on classics of the past. Not because I think the games of today are bad. I don't I think they are excellent but focussing on retro games reduces the choice to a more manageable level.

Portal 2 two screen coop on one PC.

I mentioned before that I intended to try Portal 2 in "unofficial split screen co-op mode. Well split screen on a small computer monitor is a recipe for a headache especially when the game defies gravity as much as portal. However a minor bit of extra fiddling allowed us to drive two seperate screens from one PC. The Steam forums describes a complicated method of doing this that I couldn't get working so this simpler method which worked for me might be of use to someone. 1. First I followed the instructions in this post to get split screen multi-player working: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1847904 A minor issue not mentioned is that you need to enable the console from the keyboard/mouse options menu I am using keyboard and one wired Xbox360 controller as suggested. Lotro: The Forgotten Treasury

Throg joined a Kinship group for the Forgotten Treasury instance last night. It was an enjoyable change from the solo questing that the now level 55 dwarf champion has been mostly doing so far in Moria. Some members of the group had tried and failed to clear the Treasury before so we knew it would be challenging but we were lucky enough to have a well balanced group with Guardian, Minstrel, Lore Master, Hunter, Burglar and Champion (Throg). Throg (level 55) and the minstrel (53) were both below the 56ish level of the instance but the others were all higher so it more or less balanced out. [SPOILERs ahead] It is a well designed enjoyable instance set in a circular chamber with balcony around. As you enter, a boss absconds to a locked side chamber with his treasure leaving the fellowship to clear trash ringed around the balcony.
